There are three affordable housing programs that EmPOWERment, Inc. operates: Preservation Housing, Housing Chatham, and Affordable Rental. Each of these programs works to increase affordable housing and preserve local neighborhoods for families.
Preservation Housing works throughout Orange County to rehabilitate homes and sell them at an affordable rate. The majority of the purchasers are first-time, low-income homebuyers who have earned their Homebuyer Education Certificate from EmPOWERment, Inc.'s Community Homebuyers Club.
Housing Chatham operates strictly in Chatham County to construct new homes and assist low-income homebuyers in their purchase.
- The Affordable Rental program rehabilitates and rents apartment units and homes at subsidized rates in Chapel Hill and Carrboro. This program serves two purposes: 1) helps alleviate the large demand in the area for affordable rental housing and 2) protects our neighborhoods for working class families.
