EmPOWERment Inc – Now More Than Ever
Founded in 1996, EmPOWERment, Inc. Is a community development organization empowering people to control their own destinies through affordable housing, grassroots economic development opportunities and community organization. EmPOWERment is strategically located on North Graham Street, in a traditionally African American, low wealth area recovering from the heavy influence of drug trafficking and loitering. Since its start, EmPOWERment has worked to help citizens use their voice, communicate with one another and stay active in community activities. Instead of letting the area fall victim to negative outside influences, the organization strives to achieve a harmonious and united community that fosters positive growth.
EmPOWERment Inc. helps Orange County residents find housing, whether its homeownership or rental. EmPOWERment owns and manages 40 rental units. EmPOWERment owns 33 units of various sizes from efficiency apartments to four bedrooms. Many of our units are located in the Northside, Pine Knoll, Carr Court and Lloyd Street areas. EmPOWERment has worked diligently with the help of the Community and the Police Department to improve our neighborhoods stereotyped by bad press ignorance. We encourage our tenants to participate in Neighborhood watch and advise us if they see activity unbecoming of the neighborhood.
